Foraminotomy for Spinal Stenosis Can Be Safer with Laser Spine Institute

Foraminotomy for Spinal Stenosis Can Be Safer with Laser Spine Institute

If your doctor has suggested foraminotomy for spinal stenosis treatment you may want to consider undergoing the procedure at Laser Spine Institute. We use advanced endoscopic techniques that reduce the risk for infection and dramatically lessen the trauma to surrounding tissue when compared to traditional open-back surgery. This allows all of our procedures to be conducted on an outpatient basis and all of our patients to be up and walking within hours of surgery.

Here’s how our foraminotomy for spinal stenosis works:

  • The patient is sedated with IV fluids, and the affected area of the back is treated with local anesthesia.
  • A small incision is made in the back, and a series of nesting tubes is fed into the incision, gradually pushing muscle aside and increasing the size of the tube opening. The final and largest tube is left in place.
  • The stenosis site is accessed, and small tools including a light and camera are fed to it through the tube.
  • The foraminotomy is performed.
  • The tools and tube are removed, and if needed the small incision is closed with a stitch or two.

Within two weeks most of our patients are back to their normal activities, and within three months 85% of them report an increased quality of life. Not only is that a better success rate than traditional foraminotomy, but some of our patients even feel relief right on the operating table.

If you’d like to learn more about our approach to foraminotomy for spinal stenosis, contact us today. We’ll review your MRI or CT scan for free to determine whether or not any of our procedures are right for you.
