Spinal Stenosis Pain Can Often be treated at Laser Spine Institute

Spinal stenosis pain can be minor—a little tingling in your leg or arm—but for an unfortunate few, it can be nearly crippling. These sufferers experience enough weakness in their limbs that it can be hard to hold onto things or stand on their own. Spinal stenosis can even rob them of their dignity by causing loss of bowel or bladder control. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. There is a treatment for spinal stenosis pain at Laser Spine Institute (LSI) that is a great alternative for patients who are experiencing severe pain and haven’t achieved any measure of relief with more conservative treatments.

Here’s how it works:

  • The location of the spinal stenosis is pinpointed, and the back or neck is numbed with a local anesthetic. An IV sedative is also administered.
  • A small incision, about one centimeter long, is made, and a series of nesting tubes are gradually fed into the opening. As the tubes get larger, they gently push muscle and other tissue aside to expose the site of the spinal stenosis. All but the largest tube are removed.
  • Small tools are fed down the tube and a surgeon uses them to remove the tissue or bone buildup causing your spinal stenosis pain. He performs the procedure using a camera and a light.
  • The tube and all the tools are removed, and the incision is closed.

This procedure is so gentle that it is performed on an outpatient basis and requires no hospitalization. Most of our patients are walking within hours of the procedure, and they return to their normal activities quickly.

If you’d like more information about this spinal stenosis pain treatment, contact LSI. We’ll review your MRI or CT scan and let you know if any of our procedures can help you.
