Thoracic Spinal Stenosis Treatment at Laser Spine Institute

Thoracic Spinal Stenosis Treatment at Laser Spine Institute

Thoracic spinal stenosis can lead to tightness, weakness and pain in the mid-back where the condition originates, but it can also produce the same symptoms in the chest, even though the actual issue is in the spine. This is because the nerves that exit the spinal column in the thoracic region travel around the ribs to the front of the body. Regardless of where it is felt, the pain occurs because stenosis narrows the spinal column and pinches nerve tissue, causing irritation at the site and wherever the nerve travels. And while spinal stenosis can also occur in the neck or lower back, the natural narrowness of the spinal canal in the thoracic region makes it especially susceptible to the condition.

Fortunately, there are several treatments for thoracic spinal stenosis, including:

  • Elimination of activities that exacerbate the condition
  • Bed rest
  • Physical therapy
  • Stretching
  • Over-the-counter pain medications

For more serious cases, spinal steroid injections may be administered to reduce inflammation. If there is still pain present, surgery maybe suggested. If you find yourself in this position, you may want to consider treatment at Laser Spine Institute (LSI). We offer endoscopic treatments that gently remove the tissue, bone or other matter that’s narrowing your spinal canal, which relieves pressure and pain. And because endoscopy requires only a small incision and no cutting or tearing of muscle, the trauma to the body is minimal, the recovery is quick, and there is less chance of infection.

If you’d like to learn more about the innovative treatments we offer for thoracic spinal stenosis, contact LSI today. We’ll review your MRI or CT scan today to determine if we can help you.
